7:00 Launch of Durham Living Wage Project
We picked this unique location for what should be a unique meeting -- the launch of the new Durham Living Wage Project: Certifying Durham’s Living Wage Employers. In addition to learning about why we need a living wage in Durham and how the certification program works, attendees will have the chance to hear from and meet several of the 22 “founding businesses” that have already been certified. Attendees will also learn about the next steps in the campaign and how they can lend their support. The Durham Living Wage Project is special effort that emerged from the People’s Alliance’s Economic Inequality Action Team. Dozens of PA members, community allies, and business owners have worked together over the past 10 months to make this project a reality. The Project is modeled on a similar effort in Asheville and puts Durham among a small handful of communities nationwide to implement or even consider such a voluntary living wage campaign. To learn more, visit the project’s new website at www.durhamlivingwage.org, or follow the project on Facebook or Twitter (@livabull).
