Meg Wiehe is a national expert on tax fairness, and we are lucky to have her as a
Durham resident. Meg joined ITEP as the State Tax Policy Director in May 2010 and is
responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the organization’s state tax
policy agenda. Meg works closely with state policymakers, legislative staff and
advocacy organizations to promote and protect progressive tax policy. Prior to joining
ITEP, Meg worked at the North Carolina Budget and Tax Center where her research
and advocacy was focused on the impact of state fiscal policy on low- and moderate-
income North Carolinians. Her work in North Carolina included leading a successful
campaign to enact a state refundable Earned Income Tax Credit and coordinating a
statewide revenue coalition, Together NC.
Meg will make a presentation on:
- Principles of tax fairness
- Examples of model local tax systems
- Options for Durham
Following the presentation, we encourage an active discussion among participants.
