Many decades of research consistently conclude that high quality early learning experiences support children’s success in their K-12 education. Durham city, county and school board leaders have charged a task force to look at the issues surrounding the expansion of high quality pre-K in Durham and to make recommendations in March, 2017.
People’s Alliance Education Team is offering a forum, “Building Blocks to Pre-K in Durham” on October 25, 2016. With the help of a panel of experts, we will explore what research shows us about brain development, take a look at what Durham currently offers our youngest learners and get an overview of options to fund expanding pre-school in Durham.
Our panelists include:
- Linda Chappell, Sr. Vice-President, Triangle Area Child Care Resource and Referral Service and co-chair, Community Early Education/Pre-School Task Force
- Cedric Johnson, Policy Analyst, NC Budget and Tax Center, and
- Beth Messersmith, NC Campaign Director for MomsRising.
Doors open at 6 pm and the Forum is from 6:30-8:30 pm. Refreshments and child care provided.
