A march retracing the route of the 1963 “Silent March for Justice” from Hayti Heritage Center to downtown Durham. Marchers will gather at Hayti Heritage Center at 9:30 a.m. and the march will climax at Corcoran Plaza downtown with remarks by long-time civil rights leader Benjamin Chavis, a young assistant to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., leader of the “Wilmington Ten,” former Executive Director of the NAACP, and National Director of the Million Man March, as well as the Founder and CEO of the National African American Leadership Summit. Since 2001 he has been CEO and Co-Chairman of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.
