During this month’s meeting, team members will plan next steps on our top priorities: to prevent evictions, keep people in their homes, and save lives in Durham.
We plan to ask city, county, and state representatives (including the courts) to prevent evictions of Durham residents by:
- Increasing funds for Legal Aid of NC to represent and quickly pay rent for more tenants. Both rent and legal assistance are needed to stop evictions.
- Referring tenants with eviction filings to Legal Aid of NC and giving tenants time to apply for Rental Assistance.
- Sending tenants the eviction moratorium with eviction papers.
We plan to continue outreach to tenants and landlords on the eviction moratorium and Durham housing resources as well.
