The People's Alliance Racial Equity action team works to dismantle systemic racism--a system of societal and institutional beliefs and policies that uphold white supremacy and oppress people of color--by first looking at People's Alliance itself and assuring its policies and decision-making promote racial equality, and then extending that lens throughout our community.
For the past two years, the Team has been focused on Criminal Justice Reform in Durham County. We have developed a set of Recommendations for Criminal Justice Reform in the First 100 Days of our newly elected officials and judges: DA Satana Deberry, Sheriff Clarence Birkhead, and Durham’s District and Superior Court Judges.
You can download the recommendations here.
We will be tracking progress toward these recommendations in the next months. Progress to date (coming soon).
Meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of every month.
