The City of Durham’s franchise agreement with Duke Energy comes up for renewal this year. The franchise agreement spells out the rules and regulations under which Duke Energy operates in Durham. Our mayor, Steve Schewel, is asking for changes to the current agreement that will enable our city to transition to renewable energy for all of our power needs. This petition is written to support the mayor’s efforts. If we can secure enough of the Durham community’s vocal backing, we will be in a stronger position to win these demands from Duke Energy.
