KEEP IN MIND: WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS EVENT WILL BE. We believe it could be any day in July.

Any day now, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals could issue a ruling on the constitutionality of Virginia's ban on marriage equality (Bostic v. Schaefer). The ruling could also have implications for marriage in three other states in the Fourth Circuit, including North Carolina, setting binding precedent for Amendment One challenges in Federal district court and possibly laying legal groundwork for the Supreme Court to affirm the freedom to marry nationwide. 

We don't know when or how the Fourth Circuit will rule. But a favorable ruling in the Virginia case could bring us that much closer to the freedom to marry in North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia.

    In case you're keeping track: yesterday, Florida got a ruling in favor of marriage; this morning the 10th Circuit ruled (again) in favor of marriage, (this time in a direct challenge to Oklahoma's ban) -- and, if the Supreme Court doesn't grant its own stay by Monday, the 10th Circuit stay on the Utah ruling in favor of marriage will expire -- opening the door for six states across the Mountain West to grant marriages, including OK, UT, WY, CO, KS, NM. All of this as we wait to hear if SCOTUS will grant cert. of a Utah appeal. No ruling yet from the 4th Circuit which, we would guess, is waiting to see what happens with the latter SCOTUS stay/writ of cert. Now, back to your regularly-scheduled international crises.
