CAN works on actionable issues that can result in a big “win.”  These issues are decided upon by their members. Recently, CAN has been active in the areas of Education, Foreclosures, and Neighborhoods.

  • Education: CAN obtained agreement from new Superintendent of the Durham Public Schools to develop a join SWOT analysis of Latino education. It is likely superintendent will attend next public meeting of CAN

  • Neighborhoods: City Manager kept his word in helping arrange new Bull City Streets events. A report was sent to CAN summarizing the City’s actions in response to CAN audits. Manager and/or representatives from the City are likely to report at next Delegates assembly of CAN

  • Foreclosure & negotiations with Banks: CAN and sister organizations have been successful in negotiations with Bank of America regarding the rights of military families. We are advancing conversations with the NC Attorney General over the investigation of the fraudulent foreclosure practices. A meeting with the NC attorney General will take place on April 15, 2011. Created helpful forclosure hand-out.

From the Durham CAN website:

Durham CAN is not a movement, a protest group, a political action committee, or a service organization.  We do not run programs, endorse candidates, or take government money.
