Marcus was born in Stanaford, West Virginia and lived there with his grandfather for 11 years. When Marcus was 16, he signed up for the military and enlisted in the United States Navy when he turned 17. Marcus spent four years attached to Marine Corps infantry units and four years working for President George W. Bush at the Camp David Presidential Retreat. After Marcus left the military he attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
After earning his undergraduate degree, Marcus taught middle-school students in Charlotte for an educational non-profit and worked for the City of Charlotte’s Economic Development Department. Marcus left Charlotte to pursue his Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Duke University and currently works for the federal government.
