Volunteer

You’ve got skills.  We’ve got needs.
PA has many interesting volunteer tasks, and you can help us:
  • actively communicate better,
  • keep better track of members new and old,
  • carefully account for contributions,
  • thoroughly engage our community
  • and more!
If volunteers help take on some of these tasks, it frees up the PA staff to do things like monitor city and county budget processes.
There are MANY different ways to get involved with the life of the People’s Alliance.
If you are interested in volunteering, contact the PA Office to get information about the many opportunities listed below, using any of these methods:

Here are some of the tasks we currently need (with rough estimates of time required):

Membership Recruiting and Membership Records Management
  • Skills: Activist-Manager. Maintain a membership renewal system, a new member invitation system, and an email update system
  • (12 hours per month, or less for individual tasks).
Accounting Expert
  • Skills: Activist accountant/bookkeeping experience
  • Review PA records, train us in best practices for bookkeeping and accounting
People’s Alliance Website Management
  • Skills: Communication, Word Press knowledge
  • Someone to assist our staff person in keeping our website content up-to-date and keep our social media posts timely
  • Experience with WordPress a plus, but we can train you easily!
  • (3 hours / week ?)
PA Newsletter Volunteers
  • Writing for the Newsletter
  • (A) There is still a core of PA members who either must or want to receive the PA newsletter in a hard copy. The copy could be taken directly from the on-line version, although edits and decisions on what to include would have to be made because of space considerations.
  • Mailing the Newsletter: 4 hours of labeling  and sealing newsletter (every other month).
Help station a table at CenterFest and other Durham Events
    • Durham’s annual outdoor arts and crafts festival is a great way for the People’s Alliance to make our presence known to the community, hand out literature, and talk with the People about their concerns! CenterFest is held every September and tabling the event requires a lot of warm bodies! Have fun talking up the PA!
Additionally, there are work groups for you to join!
Much of the PA policy-making originates in these work groups.  By being a part of one (or more!) of them, you can help shape the future of the People’s Alliance.
    • And…  If you have a committee idea or would like to start one, give the PA a call!
