Action Center

It is time for Durham to take a stand in one of the most important Civil Rights issues of our generation. North Carolina’s anti-gay constitutional amendment will impact much more than gay families. People’s Alliance is taking the lead in Durham to mobilize and win the vote against the anti-family, bad for business, divisive marriage amendment in May. Our goals are to both support the statewide organizing, but also bring to bear all the Bull City’s progressive energy to get out the vote locally. There is so much to do. We have organized a series of Action Groups. These groups need people with many different skills so please get involved.  BUMPER STICKERS and YARD SIGNS  are available – let us know if you want one!  These aren’t cheap – please make a donation to PA-PAC to help cover the cost, and help us be able do even more to stop the amendment!

Please sign up below if you want to help, and specify which committee you’d like to assist with. To connect on Facebook, please“like” the BullFight Facebook page . The Protect NC Families office is now open at 201 W. Main, Suite 200. Phone calls are happening daily. Let them know if you are coming to help, and bring your cell phone!

  • Letter to the Editor (L.T.E.) Bureau – Join an email list that will keep an eye on the local press, notify a central organizer, and plan to respond at strategic times when there is press response needed.  Nothing should go unanswered
  • Speaker’s Bureau – Go and speak to community organizations, interested groups, churches, etc. about the issue.  We can help you develop your talking points, or you can use your own.
      • Train the Trainer is available through All of Us NC and Protect NC Families – Organize a local training for speakers OR for those who want help to have their our own individual conversation
  • GOTV – Get Out The Vote: Help organize and conduct regular phone banking between January and May.
  • Events– Organize a range of early Voting Events
  • Materials
  • Communications Help People’s Alliance maintain a central repository for upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and donations
  • Outreach – contact potential allies and identify ways they can support this effort, including making public declarations against the amendment.
  • House Parties Organize, host, support others to hold house parties to inform and/or raise funds.
  • Canvassers -  We need people to canvass neighborhoods to help people understand this is not about gay marriage, it’s about the kind of state we want to live in, not weakening domestic violence protections, protecting the rights of all unmarried couples, and fundamental fairness.
